In einem friedlichen Dorf im Emmental leben der fünfzehnjährige Sascha und seine gleichaltrigen Freunde Patrick und Moni. An der Schwelle zum Erwachsenwerden versuchen die drei Jugendlichen ihrem monotonen Alltag zu entkommen. Während seine Freunde tagsüber in Lehrbetrieben arbeiten, bleibt Sascha oft allein, auf sich bezogen und wartet auf eine Welt, die in scheinbar nicht will. Sein Unglück ist es, bei niemandem Anerkennung zu finden. Seine Schicht arbeitende Mutter sieht er kaum, sein Vater ist vor langem ausgezogen. Kälte, Verzweiflung und Wut begleiten Sascha auf seiner Suche nach Zuneigung und Identität. Seine stummen Hilfeschreie nimmt niemand wahr. Sascha will vor seinen Freunden Stärke ausstrahlen, will ihnen wenigstens in kleinen Raufereien überlegen und bei riskanten Unternehmungen besonders kühn sein. Als sie eines Tages im nächtlichen Wald herumstreunen, entdecken sie eine hell erleuchtete Hütte, in der kahlgeschorene Männer grölend feiern und tanzen.

Now Jakob has the job of transporting a valuable stud ram to Norway by car, because the ram doesn't like flying. The film starts with the main character Laura, a young woman with advanced cancer, entering quite upset the home of her parents and claiming to have stopped chemo therapy and having left her husband. The worried parents call the other three adult daughters into the house and they arrive one by one. For the first time in 6 years the entire family is united again. The characters are drawn as tensions rise from old conflicts and as the situation sinks in that Laura might be terminally ill. The movie eventually shifts from a lively sometimes comical beginning into the serious theme of dying and does handle this quite tactfully and moving. While the film touches on many areas surrounding death (including religion, graveyard, care, eutanasia) the main focus is on the transformation of the characters that are thrown out of their busy lifes into this situation, eventually accepting it and dealing with it.
