Das Ende der Erde steht unmittelbar bevor. Ein Mann, gespielt von Paco Moreno, taucht unter seinem Bett in eine parallele Dimension ein. Ein Ort im Schwebezustand zwischen Realität und Fantasie, an dem die normalen Regeln von Raum und Zeit außer Kraft gesetzt sind. Seine Frau (Ana Mayo) folgt ihm in diese Parallelwelt, um ihn zu retten. In dieser tristen, surrealen Welt herrscht ein skrupellose, rollschuhtragende Königin (Marina Gatell), die die Macht besitzt die Wirklichkeit nach ihren Vorstellungen zu manipulieren. Sie gestaltet ihr reich als verrückte Schachpartie ohne wirklich klare Regeln, in einer postapokalyptischen Dystopie von Herrschaft und Unterwerfung. Nach ihrer Laune werden ihre Untertanen, die Schachfiguren regelmässig bestraft, gequält oder eingesperrt. In dem ganzen apokalyptischen Wahnsinn und der Hoffnung auf Rettung, stellt sich immer wieder die Frage wer von wem in dieser Schachpartie gelenkt wird, wer ist Bauer; Läufer oder Königin.

Near the end of World War II, the survivors of a torpedoed hospital ship cling to life aboard a crowded lifeboat.
