  Small town living suits Box just fine. Blue collar, safe, simple. A passion for slaughter keeps him in line at the local abattoir where he has the chance to quench his thirst for blood. When Nathan, a young parolee arrives in town, Box is instructed to take him under his wing, and soon the two men bond over a bloody murder. Unable to resist the temptations of blood, the two form a friendship revolving around their sickness for power. A friendship which is bad news for everyone in town as they become lambs for the slaughter used solely as entertainment for the duo.

  Jan Gerdes is a third-generation dairy farmer, but he struggles with his conscience when the milk yield decreases and he has to sell his cows to the slaughterhouse. After suffering a burn-out, he decides to give up his farm. On the day his last cows are due to be transported to the slaughterhouse, he finds that there's no room for twelve of the cows. Instead of ordering another transport, he and his partner Karin Mück decide to keep them. This is the birth of 'Hof Butenland' - the first cow retirement home in Germany.

  Full of anticipation, ten-year-old Emma goes on vacation to her grandma Dolly in the country. Once there, however, the girl learns that old Klipperbusch has died - and his money-hungry nephew Albert is already in the process of converting the inherited estate for profit. And anything he can't use for this is thrown out without further ado. At least Emma manages to save Klipperbusch's beloved mare Mississippi from the slaughterhouse at the last minute: she persuades her grandmother to buy the horse from Albert. Emma is now a proud horse owner. She is all the more surprised when Albert turns up at her door one day and desperately wants Mississippi back.   Als Ida (Julie Nordhuus) mit ihrer Mutter aufs Land ziehen muss, gefällt ihr das gar nicht. Die 15-jährige ist ein echtes Stadtmädchen, deren Lieblingsbeschäftigungen Mode und Internet sind. So kann sie selbst die wunderschöne Landschaft der norwegischen Küste nicht begeistern. Und auch die Farm bietet Ida kein Vergnügen. Auf einem benachbarten Gestüt lernt sie eines Tages drei gleichaltrige Mädchen kennen, die dort reiten. Doch in Idas Augen sind das keine richtigen Mädchen, sondern bloß dumme Gören, die sich im Dreck suhlen. Nach einem Chat mit ihrer Freundin plant sie abzuhauen. Als sie sich auf den Weg macht, begegnet sie dem betagten Pferd Kehilan. Das Tier gilt als unzähmbar, aber bei Ida ist es zutraulich und nach und nach entwickelt sich ein tiefes Vertrauen zwischen den beiden.

The workers of the largest slaughterhouse in the country are fighting for survival, while German activists who stand up for their rights are fighting against the local authorities. At the same time, Munich high school students are working on the play "Saint Joan of the Stockyards" and trying to grasp the old text and German capitalism of our days. Interwoven with the young people's examination of the text in the rehearsals, the film deals in various fragments with conditions and facets of temporary work and labour migration in Germany.

Pakistanische Männer wiederum verschrotten mit kaum mehr als ihren bloßen Händen einen alten Tanker. Und Stahlarbeiter in China befürchten, sie wären eine aussterbende Art.
