Im erdbebenzerstörten Norden des Irans versucht eine Filmcrew, einen Spielfilm zu drehen. Der Laie Hossein, ein Maurer, soll eine kleine Rolle übernehmen. Zu seiner Partnerin wird zufällig jenes Mädchen ausgewählt, in das er unsterblich verliebt ist. Leider wurden seine heißen Gefühle von Farkhonde bisher nicht erwidert. Hossein ist nämlich ein armer Schlucker, der weder Haus noch Vermögen besitzt. Doch aufgrund seiner frischerworbenen Position im geplanten Film schöpft Hossein wieder Hoffnung. Der arme Maurer Hossein wird in einer kleinen Laienrolle unglücklicherweise mit seiner unnahbaren Angebeteten als Filmpartnerin konfrontiert. Die in ruhigen Bildern erzählte Film-im-Film-Geschichte gewährt einen liebe- wie humorvollen Einblick in die iranische Gesellschaft.

The young and friendly Kalle returns after spending many years in jail for his escape attempts. He doesn't know exactly who blew the whistle, but his friend Skrodt is definitely under suspicion. Kalle returns to ostensibly renew the friendship and to see Isabelle whom he loves. The duplicitous friendship between the two men becomes the main focus of the story which features interesting plot twists at the end.

Einzig die mit fast hellseherischen Kräften ausgestattete Mutsch scheint noch eine leichte Übersicht zu haben. Akribisch verfolgt sie mit ihrem Sohn, der hier als Pfleger arbeitet alle von ihr entdeckten Merkwürdigkeiten und deckt dabei immerwieder neue auf.
