Malgré leurs efforts, les États et l’Organisation Mondiale de la Santé (OMS) restent impuissants à endiguer l’antibiorésistance. À la source de la médecine moderne, les antibiotiques ont offert jusqu’ici un moyen quasi miraculeux de lutter contre les bactéries infectieuses. Mais leur usage abusif, qui voit décliner inéluctablement leur efficacité, pose un problème de santé majeur.

Ils s’appellent Etu, Innocent, Assouman, Zorito, Philibert et Jean-Marie. Inséparables, ces six enfants des rues grandissent comme ils peuvent à Bujumbura, la capitale burundaise. Lorsqu’ils croisent la route du cinéaste Philippe de Pierpont, en 1991, ils lui font promettre de revenir les filmer "jusqu’à leur mort", ce à quoi il consent, sans pouvoir imaginer ce que va représenter pour eux, et pour lui ce contrat solennel. Trente ans après, il n'y a plus que trois presque quadragénaires face à sa caméra.
