Die weißen Großgrundbesitzer im brasilianischen Bundesstaat Mato Grosso do Sul führen ein komfortables Leben. Der Anbau von genveränderten Pflanzen auf ihren gewaltigen Feldern ist nicht die einzige Einnahmequelle, auch “Birdwatching”-Touren für Touristen sind im Angebot. Die für diese Touren als Foto-Attraktion engagierten Guarani-Kaiowa Indianer fristen dagegen ein klägliches Dasein in ihren Reservaten abseits der fruchtbaren Plantagen, vertrieben von dem Land, das einmal ihnen gehörte. Es ist dieses perspektivlose Leben, das viele junge Guarani in den Selbstmord treibt. Und es ist ein solcher Selbstmord, der die Revolution eines Stammes auslöst.
