  Es war einmal... in einem kleinen Vorort am Rande Roms. Die sommerliche Leichtigkeit ist von einer rätselhaften Stimmung der Beklommenheit durchzogen. Aus der Ferne betrachtet wohnen hier ganz normale Familien und führen ein ruhiges Leben in Häusern, Höfen und Gärten, aber der äußere Schein trügt. Die fahle Hitze des Sommers liegt wie eine Glocke über einer Atmosphäre der Entfremdung. Das Schweigen überdeckt die mühsam gebändigte Aggression der Väter und die Passivität der Mütter. Die verständnislosen Erwachsenen verfolgen hartnäckig ihre Illusion eines bürgerlichen Lebens und scheinbar spielen die Kinder den ihnen zugedachten Part. Doch hinter der Fassade verfolgen sie konsequent ihre eigenen, dunklen Pläne und schließlich werden es die Kinder sein, die den Ort in seinen Grundfesten erschüttern...
