Sugihara (Yôsuke Kubozuka) ist ein sogenannter „Zainichi“. Ein Koreaner, der in Japan aufgewachsen ist. Durch seinen bikulturellen Hintergrund, stellt das Leben in jeden Tag erneut auf die Probe. Jeder Tag ist für ihn ein Kampf mit der Umwelt, gegen Rassismus und gegen sich selbst. Selbst als er seine große Liebe trifft, ruft dies keine Schmetterlinge im Bauch hervor, sondern befördert nur einen neuen Kampf an die seelische Oberfläche. Doch Sugihara nimmt den Kampf auf und sieht sein Leben eher als Herausforderung.
