Doch als gleich mehrere der Meg genannten riesigen Urzeithaie aus den finsteren Ecken der ozeanischen Untiefen auftauchen, scheint der Konflikt mit dem gierigen Konzern im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes auf einmal eher das kleinste Problem zu sein. Der Kampf ums schiere Überleben beginnt und entwickelt sich schnell zu einem Rennen an die rettende Oberfläche.
