Aus einem Tal in den Pyrenäen wird die Landärztin Dr. Marianne Delille (Sandrine Kiberlain) auf einen abgelegenen Berghof gerufen, um die Bäuerin zu untersuchen. Germain und seine Frau Jeanne wähnen ein verborgenes Talent entdeckt zu haben, und da Germain seinen Schüler unbedingt fördern will, ermuntert er ihn zum Weiterschreiben. Doch mit seiner Ermutigung löst er eine Kette von Ereignissen aus, die bald nicht mehr zu kontrollieren sind ...
