Für eine investigative Recherche kann man als Journalistin schon mal eine Gerichtsvorladung ignorieren, denkt sich Nicole Hurley. Die Richterin ist da natürlich anderer Meinung, zumal sie auch keine Ahnung hat, warum Nicole nicht erschienen ist. Den fälligen Haftbefehl soll der Kopfgeldjäger Milo Boyd vollstrecken, der früher mit Nicole verheiratet war. Mit großem Enthusiasmus heftet er sich an die Fersen seiner Ex-Frau, die ihren Informanten Jimmy sucht. Der ist nach einem Telefonanruf, in dem er brisantes Material versprochen hat, verschwunden. So gerät Milo zusammen mit Nicole ins Fadenkreuz der Kriminellen, die sich Jimmy vorgeknöpft haben. Außerdem gibt es da auch noch ein paar Schuldeneintreiber, die dafür sorgen wollen, dass Milo endlich seine Verbindlichkeiten bei windigen Wucherern begleicht.
