Mit Vincent van Goghs Bruder Theo war eine von der Kunstgeschichte wenig beachtete Frau verheiratet: die Kunstsammlerin Johanna van Gogh-Bonger (1862–1925). Als ihr Mann im Januar 1891 starb, erbte sie mit dem Nachlass beider Brüder auch deren Briefwechsel sowie Hunderte Werke Vincent van Goghs. Johanna hatte ihren Schwager erst in den letzten beiden Monaten vor seinem Freitod kennengelernt. Fortan widmete sie ihr ganzes Leben dem Ziel, van Goghs Werk inetrnational bekannt zu machen. In einem Zusammenspiel aus Archivmaterial und Animation würdigt die Dokumentation ihr Engagement für das niederländische Malergenie.
