“Tatjana” ist ein Roadmovie über die unglaublichen Abenteuer zweier Finnen, die in einem schwarzen Wolga durch den Süden Finnlands fahren. Valto, der Wagenbesitzer, konsumiert Unmengen Kaffee während Reino, ein Mechaniker, Alkohol trinkt und unentwegt quasselt. Schon zu Beginn der Reise gabeln sie zwei Ladies auf, eine Russin und eine Estin. Trotz Sprachbarrieren und Unsicherheit im Umgang mit dem anderen Geschlecht kommen sich die Vier näher. “Tatjana” ist eine absurde Kommödie über die erstaunliche Verfassung des finnischen Mannes und die Beziehungen zwischen Finnland, Estland und Russland Anfang der neunziger Jahre. Pilot zügig Wodka-Flaschen leert. Die gemeinsam verbrachte Nacht im Hotel wirkt wenig stürmisch. Doch ist hier soviel Liebe im Spiel, daß sich selbst Kaurismäki zum – für finnische Verhältnisse – romantischen Happy-End hinreißen läßt.
