Doch als das Repertoire des Ensembles zunehmend politisiert wird, nutzt Wiktor einen Auftritt in Ostberlin, um in den Westen zu fliehen. Entgegen der Verabredung bleibt Zula zurück, doch das Schicksal führt die beiden Jahre später in Paris erneut zueinander. So flammend ihre Liebe auch noch ist, so zerrissen ist das Paar jetzt und Zula muss eine tiefgreifende Entscheidung treffen. Der Film erzählt von der Liebe eines Paares, das vor dem Hintergrund des Kalten Krieges ohne einander nicht leben kann und miteinander fast keinen Frieden findet.

Auf seinen ausgiebigen Joggingtouren trifft er auf Tiffany, die ihren Mann, der Polizist war, bei einem Einsatz verloren hat, und nun die Trauerarbeit durch nymphomane Tendenzen kompensiert. Sie verspricht Pat, den Kontakt zu Nikki herzustellen, wenn er mit ihr für ein Tanzturnier trainiert. An sich ein klarer Deal; aber je näher der Tag des Wettbewerbs rückt, desto verwickelter wird die Angelegenheit.

Inspired by transwoman Mahogany who, as the mother of the scene, presided over queer strip shows and balls for non-heterosexual audiences in the 1980s, butch Ronnie Ron created, produced and presented the new shows. In them, the largely female clientele from the ‘hood’ slipped dollar notes into lap dancers’ panties while celebrating lesbian sexuality to pulsating hip-hop beats.
