People from the village play their own parts in the film. The search for the protagonist lasted for over a year.

Nach ihrer Laune werden ihre Untertanen, die Schachfiguren regelmässig bestraft, gequält oder eingesperrt. In dem ganzen apokalyptischen Wahnsinn und der Hoffnung auf Rettung, stellt sich immer wieder die Frage wer von wem in dieser Schachpartie gelenkt wird, wer ist Bauer; Läufer oder Königin.
