Die Zukunft der Insel steht nämlich auf dem Spiel. Schon seit langer Zeit beißen die Fische nicht mehr und die Männer sind gezwungen, von der Sozialhilfe zu leben. Als sich eine Firma anbietet, in St-Marie-La Mauderne eine Kunststofffabrik zu errichten, sind alle Bewohner wieder voller Hoffnung. Das schafft Arbeitsplätze und somit wieder die Unabhängigkeit.
