Grant wurde 1994 von Courtney Love beauftragt, sich auf die Spur ihres Ehemanns zu begeben, nachdem sie länger nichts von ihm gehört hatte. Wenige Tage später wurde die Leiche in ihrem Haus in Seattle entdeckt. Aufgrund einer selbst zugefügten Schusswunde ist man bei der Polizei von Selbstmord als Todesursache ausgegangen.
