The year is 1944, Atze and Samuel occasionally operate on the black market, but mostly keep quiet and wait for the Americans to come. When the last German submarine, the U-900, is sent on a final mission, Atze foolishly messes with the general of this mission and has to go undercover. Together with his friend Samuel and the actress Maria, who disguises herself as a man for this purpose, he therefore smuggles himself onto the U-900 and pretends to be the captain. „Sparrow“, Spatz, ist ein geläufiges Wort im Hongkonger Straßenslang – so werden dort die Taschendiebe genannt. Der Ausdruck spielt an auf die besondere Fingerfertigkeit, die man benötigt, um sich Portemonnaies aus fremder Leute Taschen herauszupicken … und möglicherweise auch auf die Notwendigkeit, im Falle der Entdeckung rasch auf und davon zu fliegen.Kei ist einer dieser „Spatzen“, und ein sehr professioneller. Zusammen mit drei Partnern lebt er ganz gut davon, im Straßengewühl von Hongkong tief in die Taschen ahnungsloser Passanten zu greifen. Für Kei reicht es jedenfalls zu einem sorgenfreien Leben. Wenn er nicht gerade seinem Broterwerb nachgeht, fährt er gern mit seinem Fahrrad durch die Stadt, um mit seiner alten Rolleiflex-Kamera Straßenszenen zu fotografieren. Eines Tages taucht dabei die umwerfend schöne Chun Lei in seinem Sucher auf. Kei ist fasziniert.

Während bereits wertvolle Zeit verrinnt und die Konkurrenz um Elena wächst, hat Marcello endlich die perfekte Geschenkidee. Aber an das Geschenk zu kommen, ist gar nicht so einfach. Schon bald sieht er sich in Tauschgeschäfte mit dem ganzen Dorf verwickelt, denn jeder will etwas, was der andere hat.

Kurzerhand nimmt sie an, reist nach Süditalien und verdingt sich in Salvatores Zwei-Sterne-Restaurant als Küchenhilfe. Der Koch ist zwar ein kulinarisches Genie, hat aber verlernt, das Leben auch mit den anderen Sinnen zu genießen. Doch nicht jeder im Lokal empfängt Regina mit offenen Armen.
