After his professional snowboarding career ended, Martin Freinademetz took to his passion to the world of Off-road racing. After spending years exploring the Carpathian mountains of Romania on a dirtbike, he decided to create an Extreme Enduro race like no other. His idea finally came to fruition in 2004 when the Red Bull Romaniacs Hard Enduro Rallye was born. Now in its eight edition, this race has become legendary as the ultimate test of man and machine against terrain. Back in 2001, the Red Bull Rampage concept was conceived to serve one of the fringes of the blossoming mountain-bike movement. There were riders — courageous, driven and a little crazy — who were at once exploring new terrain, testing their own limitations and defining a new genre of the sport, and their riding style was not represented at all in competition. Freeride mountain biking was rapidly evolving with every insane drop and first descent, and Red Bull Rampage was on board to help push it even harder. The inaugural event was a landmark in the sport’s history and was followed by three more through 2004.

The ultimate Extreme Enduro cult! The undisputed toughest off-road single race in the world, a weekend full of rocks, mud and sweat. Held in Erzberg, Styria (Austria) every June since 1995, the Erzberg Rodeo and its special highlight - the relentless Red Bull Hare Scramble - has been legendary for quite some time. On Saturday, 1,500 riders start down the gravel track of the Iron Road Prolog. Then on Sunday, the 500 fastest racers fly up the iron giant flash - an ear splitting battle before more than 45,000 spectators. But the steep muddy hillsides, narrow stretches of forest and extreme rocky passes result in collisions and racers throwing in the towel en masse. The mountain takes its toll: not even 30 bikers make it through to cross the finish line after 35 km.
