Kuolematon Highlander, Connor MacLeod johtaa yhdessä ystävänsä ja opettajansa Ramirezin kanssa aavikon kapinallisliikettä. Heidän joukkonsa kokevat tappion, ja Zeist planeetan diktaattori kenraali Katana tuomitsee heidät lähetettäväksi tulevaisuuteen, vuoteen 2024. Vuonna 2024 taivas on peitetty suojakilvellä, koska 25 vuotta aikaisemmin otsonikerroksen hajottua auringonvalosta tuli vaarallista ihmisille. Nyt ihmiset elävät epäinhimillisissä oloissa ja todellista valtaa pitää Suojakilpiyhtymä, joka kerää sillä valtavat voitot. McLeod alkaa epäillä, että suojakilvestä vastaava yritys salailee totuutta otsonikerroksen nykytilasta. Yhdessä Ramirezin ja ekoterroristi kanssa heidän on tuhottava Katana ja suojakilpi, jotta maan asukkaat voisivat jälleen nähdä sinisen taivaan.
