Kun optimistinen konstaapeli Judy Hopps saapuu, hän saa huomata, että ensimmäisenä kanina suurten, kovien eläinten täyttämissä poliisivoimissa ei ole kovin helppoa. Teknisesti taiturimainen elokuva on suurelta osin tehty tietokoneella, mitä ei yllättävää kyllä kovin helpolla huomaa lopputuloksesta. Miljööt on luotu kokonaan tietokoneilla ja eläimet ovat perinteisten tehosteiden ja digitehosteiden saumatonta yhteispeliä.
