Montanan julman autiomaan karjatilallinen David Braxton (John McLiam) on omalla työllään menestynyt mies. Vuosien väsymätön ja päättäväinen raataminen on muuttanut laajan erämaatilan reheväksi ja vauraaksi valtakunnaksi. Kun hänen elinkeinonsa, varallisuutensa - ja jopa perheensä - on uhattuna häikäilemättömän hevosvarkaan (Nicholson) toimesta, Braxton ottaa ohjat omiin käsiinsä.
