Tutut ystävämme Martin Riggs ja Robert Murtaugh jatkavat seikkailujaan Los Angelesin poliisissa. Riggs pohtii omaa ikääntymistään ja pyhittää enemmän aikaa avovaimolleen Lornalle, joka odottaa heidän ensimmäistä lastaan. Rauhaan tulee särö, kun Riggs ja Murtaugh törmäävät kalastus- reissullaan laittomia maahanmuuttajia kuljettavaan laivaan ja vyyhti vie heidät kiinalaisen mafian käsiin.
