Eräänä yönä hän kuulee yläkerrasta nujakointia ja päättää puuttua gangstereiden välien selvittelyyn, mutta sankarin roolin haaveileminen loppuu lyhyeen, sillä Walt halvaantuu pahasti ja pystyy vaiv vaivoin kävelemään. Hän menettää myös lähes kokonaan puhekykynsä ja alkaa rypemään itsesäälissä. Vastahakoisesti Walt kuitenkin suostuu kuntoutusohjelmaan, joka sisältää laulutunteja Drag-Rustyltä, se on ainoa keino palauttaa puhekyky.
