Hän myös rikkoi vahvasti aikansa naiskäsitystä – hän mm. miekkaili, metsästi karhuja ja pukeutui usein housuihin – ja ajautui väistämättä yhteenottoihin hovin konservatiivisten luterilaisten aatelismiehien kanssa. Hovi näki kuningattaren tärkeimpänä tehtävä naimisiinmenon ja perillisen, pojan, synnyttämisen.
