Kyseisessä aikasilmukassa he ovat turvassa muulta maailmalta ja ennen kaikkea omiaan vastaan kääntyneiltä eriskummallisilta. Jaken saapuminen tietysti ravistelee lasten vakiintunutta yhteisöä ja tietysti asettaa heidät vaaraan, kun pahat eriskummalliset käyttävät poikaa hyväkseen kätketyt lapset löytääkseen. Heidän on löydettävä voimiensa lisäksi älynsä, rohkeutensa ja muutkin sisäiset voimavaransa pelastaakseen itsensä ja aikuiset suojelijansa.

Disney esittää sydäntälämmittävän seikkailukomedian, joka sijoittuu moderniin nisäkkäiden suurkaupunki Zootropolikseen. Sen vieressä sijaitsevat elinympäristöt ovat esimerkiksi rutikuiva Saharan aukio ja hyytävän kylmä Tundrakylä, joten se on sulatusuuni, jossa jokaisesta elinympäristöstä tulleita eläimiä elää yhdessä. Siellä ei ole väliä mikä on, sillä suurimmasta norsusta pienimpään päästäiseen jokainen voi olla mitä tahansa. Kun optimistinen konstaapeli Judy Hopps saapuu, hän saa huomata, että ensimmäisenä kanina suurten, kovien eläinten täyttämissä poliisivoimissa ei ole kovin helppoa. Se on päättänyt todistaa kykynsä ja tarttuu tilaisuuteen ratkaista juttu, vaikka se tarkoittaakin yhteistyötä kovaa tahtia puhuvan huijarikettu Nick Wilden kanssa arvoituksen ratkaisemiseksi.

Viidakkokirjasta on tehty useita elokuvasovituksia, joista tunnetuin on viidakkopoika Mowglin tarinoista ideoitu Walt Disneyn klassikkoanimaatio Viidakkokirja (1967). Teknisesti taiturimainen elokuva on suurelta osin tehty tietokoneella, mitä ei yllättävää kyllä kovin helpolla huomaa lopputuloksesta. Miljööt on luotu kokonaan tietokoneilla ja eläimet ovat perinteisten tehosteiden ja digitehosteiden saumatonta yhteispeliä.

Tässä paratiisissa vihanhallintaongelmista kärsivä Red, vauhdikas Sakke sekä räjähdysaltis Pommi ovat aina olleet kirjaimellisesti outoja lintuja. Mutta kun saarivierailulle saapuu salaperäisiä vihreitä possuja, näiden erilaisten lintujen tehtäväksi jää selvittää, mitä possut oikein juonivat.
