  “Mr. Brown” is a middle-aged handicapped black man, former athlet, in a wheel chair. He endlessly listens to music, reads books and looks out the window to oversee the roofs of neighboring houses in Harlem. Nothing breaks his monotonous loneliness except for the visits of two helpers - a young Russian woman-social worker and a young black man-home attendant – who merely do their duties. But in Mr. Brown’s imagination they all have a passionate affair. He feels that the home attendant loves the social worker but is very jealous of her because she is madly in love with her subject - Mr. Brown, and Mr. Brown himself is in love with the home attendant-boy. These “relationships” develop gradually over continuous visits of two helpers. And in Mr. Brown’s world their passion is expressed through the dance. Unable to withstand the energy of love and possession Mr. Brown “kills” the home attendant and sinks into a prison of his loneliness and wheel chair.

  At the end of civilization, zombies greatly outnumber humans and everyday is a fight to see tomorrow. Just when he is about to give up that fight, rugged wanderer John Knox winds up being saved by a ragtag group of survivors lead by a man named Moses. After initial suspicion, Knox proves his worth and slips into his new family in the wasteland, but one day a war party of maniacal raiders assaults the camp, killing or kidnapping everybody in sight. It's up to Knox and the few who escaped the attack to gather what resources they can (including zombies!) and launch an all-or-nothing attack on the raiders' home fortress.

  Following Bellavista and Totó, Peter Schreiner completes his informal trilogy of epic, black-and-white digital-video essay-films with the utterly monumental Fata Morgana. Shot in the Libyan desert and in an abandoned building in Lausitz, Germany, it features a man (Christian Schmidt), a woman (Giuliana Pachner, from Bellavista) - and, glimpsed now and again, a guide (Awad Elkish.) They talk, they fall silent. Winds blow. The sun shines. The camera runs. What gradually takes shape is nothing less than a painstakingly concentrated attempt to understand the human condition through the lens of cinema. A lofty ambition, and one that demands a considerable leap of faith on the part of the audience: this film is sedate, "difficult", challenging, often apparently impenetrable. But anyone who has seen Schreiner's previous films will be aware that he is by any standards a major artist, one that can be trusted to find places that other directors may not even suspect exist.

  À l’époque de la Commission Vérité et Réconciliation cette histoire met en lumière ceux qui luttèrent contre l’apartheid de l’intérieur. Sipho Makhaya travaille à la Bibliothèque Centrale de Port Elisabeth. Il en est le directeur adjoint et espère, après 43 ans de bons et loyaux services, d’humiliations et de souffrances endurées pendant l’apartheid (dont le meurtre de son fils), pouvoir enfin en prendre la direction alors que la politique de la nouvelle Afrique du Sud vise à la promotion des Noirs. Sipho vit seul avec sa fille, Thando, qui suit les débats de la Commission Vérité et Réconciliation dans l’espoir de connaître enfin la vérité sur le meurtre de son frère où elle travaille comme interprète. Ils accueillent la nièce de Sipho qui ramène le corps de son père, héros de la lutte anti-apartheid et mort à Londres où il est resté après l'avènement de la démocratie. C'est l'heure des règlements de comptes... plutôt celle de dire la vérité et de tenter la réconciliation.

King, etc. Filmed by director Martin Scorcese, this documentary was broadcast once on PBS stations, but never officially released for reasons which remain unclear. A planned release on home video was slated for early summer 1995, and Warner/Reprise produced a limited number of advance copies to be used for promotion.
