Harry Schäfer et son ami Richie Weichert, deux incorrigibles casse-cous, sont les meilleurs pilotes. Lorsque plusieurs de leurs camarades meurent aux commandes de Starfighters, la version officielle attribue les accidents à de regrettables erreurs humaines. Quand Harry est à son tour victime d’un accident et meurt, sa femme Betti n'y croit pas. Elle entraîne sa meilleure amie Helga Waldeck dans une croisade pour la vérité. Avec l’aide d’une journaliste et d’un avocat mondialement reconnu, les deux femmes vont révéler un scandale majeur.
