Riafn is a sort of dialect based on the different forms used by the shepherds and farmers of this area to call their beasts. Du moins fut-ce le cas jusqu’à la découverte de son passé nazi, un détail gênant qu'il avait fort opportunément oublié de mentionner pendant toutes ces années à occuper une fonction publique. Bien qu’il ait affirmé par la suite son ignorance totale des atrocités commises pendant la guerre, cette révélation a aussitôt divisé le pays, pendant que le reste du monde assistait en spectateur à ce spectacle inhabituel. Pendant les mois qui ont précédé l’élection, Waldheim, pressé par le Congrès juif mondial de se retirer de la course, est passé du statut de dignitaire respecté à celui de « menteur » et de « nazi ». Et pourtant… il a tout de même réussi à remporter la présidence.
