Comme son titre l'indique, il s'agit bien d'une histoire vraie, celle d'Alvin Straight qui, a 73 ans, après une mauvaise chute, décide de quitter Laurens, village du nord de l'Iowa, pour aller retrouver son frère ainé qui vient d'avoir une attaque. Les deux frères sont fâchés depuis dix ans.

Il découvre une série d'événements extraordinaires, mais la chose la plus extraordinaire de toutes est peut-être la fille très terrestre du « saint », Roxane; non-croyante et qui ne peut pardonner à sa mère, par ailleurs altruiste, de l'avoir abandonnée à l'âge de 16 ans.

Frank examine alors rapidement la situation et se laisse guider par ses réflexions. Cyndee ne travaille-t-elle pas dans une banque dont les coffres dissimulent un quart de million de dollars inertes ? Lui-même n'est-il pas policier, donc au fait du dernier cri des méthodes de la pègre ? Il ne lui en faut pas plus pour conclure que le destin lui a assigné sa place et projeter de dévaliser illico la banque où travaille Cyndee..

She's still best remembered for the likes of "Last Dance," "Dim All the Lights," and "I Feel Love," though, and this VH1-tie-in comeback bid concentrates on full-bodied if somewhat murkily mixed versions of those classics and their kin. The two new studio cuts that round out the disc are OK at best, although they do display Summer's ability to adapt to changes in pop-dance sounds.
