La famille, c'est compliqué… Surtout quand Eli, le père, bientôt 60 ans, attend un enfant de sa nouvelle femme. À l’annonce de la nouvelle, ses deux grandes filles, Dom, qui cherche a adopter, et Justine, qui passe d’un petit ami à un autre sans trop d’état d’âme, sont ébranlées. Pour se rapprocher de Justine avec qui il n’a jamais pu s’entendre, Eli a la bonne idée de se lier d’amitié avec tous ses ex… A son insu. Mais lorsque Justine tombe de nouveau amoureuse et qu’Eli s’apprête à tout gâcher, la famille est sur le point d’imploser. Though its aftertitles detailing the history of French nuke experiments suggest otherwise, writer/director Marion Hänsel’s Black Ocean is not a political treatise or a history lesson, instead taking advantage of the remote, isolated environments in which the experimentation took place – as well as the monumental imagery of the act itself – in order to communicate a more universal story about the power of awe. Ocean principally follows three young sailors on a French naval vessel in 1972, who are on course for an unknown destination in order to help carry out the bomb tests they’ve yet to personally witness. The film is essentially divided into two parts: before and after the blast.

Gino, installé depuis trente ans à Bruxelles, tient une pizzéria achetée avec les économies de son épouse Simone. Gino commande alors à un réalisateur, un documentaire sur lui et sa famille censé les présenter comme des truands de grande envergure. Seulement le tournage ne se passe pas tout à fait comme prévu, sa famille se rebelle, l’équipe se montre récalcitrante aux ordres de Gino qui a tendance à se prendre pour son personnage et quand un vrai mafieux, persuadé qu’il a affaire à un nouveau concurrent s’en mêle, c’est la panique.
