At the heart of Fellini's I am a Clown is the strange and wonderful story of Peter Goldfarb, the very young American producer who in 1967 convinced Federico Fellini, the greatest Italian director, to work for the first time for American television. A story that has remained little known for half a century and which today - for the first time - brings the man who convinced Fellini to make a sort of mockumentary Federico Fellini’s Notebook, perhaps the first in the history of Italian cinema , using a scheme that the great author born in Rimini would have later reused with other films such as Intervista, Prova d'Orchestra and Roma. A human and artistic journey that would then be repeated immediately after with The Clowns, destined to make Fellini a forerunner of modern television.

This movie doesn't have any coherent plot. It's the portrait of the lives of different people in the hard years of post-war in Spain (the 40's), and how they manage to survive in a country desolated by the war. Like other films: La colmena or Roma (Fellini) it shows us lots of characters and some moments of their lives.

Zaza is a 31-year old Israeli bachelor, handsome and intelligent, and his family wants to see him married. But tradition dictates that Zaza has to choose a young virgin. She must be beautiful and from a good family, preferably rich. Zaza's parents, Yasha and Lily drag Zaza to meet potential brides and their families. Zaza has no choice. He plays along with his family, advocates of the suffocating traditions of their Georgian Jewish heritage. But Zaza always manages to somehow get out of being engaged. What his parents don't know is that Zaza is already in love. Judith is sensuous, strong and intriguing. She's also a divorcée with a 6-year-old daughter. So Zaza has kept Judith a secret from his family. He will have to choose between respect of the strict confines of family and tradition, or the love of his life.
