Ciò ha portato alla crescita esponenziale della ROC, la società leader nel campo dell'intelligenza robotica che ha stabilito protocolli di sicurezza utili a garantire sempre il controllo dell'uomo sulle macchine. Come agente assicurativo per conto della ROC, Jacq Vaucan (Antonio Banderas) ha il compito di indagare sui modelli difettosi di androide ma ben presto scoprirà i segreti e le vere intenzioni che si celano dietro l'Automata Pilgrim 7000 con profonde conseguenze sul futuro dell'umanità.
