  In the spring of 2008, car wash workers throughout Los Angeles formed the Carwash Workers Organizing Committee of the United Steelworkers (USW), a precursor to eventual plans to unionize the informal workers of a multi-million dollar industry rampant with exploitation. Most of these workers are undocumented migrants from Central America whose aspirations have led them to washing cars in the city of angels. This experimental documentary, shot on Super 8 film, journeys into a city defined by as much by cars as it is immigrant labor to offer a quiet commentary on the relationship between class, place, and work.

  Nell’estate del 1979, un gruppo di amici di una piccola cittadina dell’Ohio è testimone di un disastro ferroviario, mentre sono intenti ad effettuare le riprese di un film girato in Super 8 da mostrare ad un festival provinciale. Capiscono subito che non si tratta di un semplice incidente perchè “qualcosa” fugge dal luogo disastro. La questione è talmente importante che la loro cittadina si riempie di militari intenti ad indagare, le persone cominciano a scomparire e strani fatti cominciano ad accadere nella città. Lo sceriffo del posto comincia ad indagare per cercare la verità e si troverà di fronte a qualcosa sconvolgente oltre ogni immaginazione. Alla fine starà ai ragazzi riuscire a mettere insieme i pezzi di una storia che procederà comunque, con o senza il loro intervento, e dalla quale dovranno uscire vivi.

Annie Ernaux, premio Nobel per la Letteratura 2022, dà voce a quei silenzi sovrapponendo le proprie parole a una raccolta di filmini familiari girati da lei e suo marito tra il 1972 e il 1981. Davanti e dietro la macchina da presa, la scrittrice racconta una storia intima che, come nei suoi libri, si intreccia con la Storia collettiva. I viaggi in giro per il mondo (dal Cile di Allende all’esotico Marocco, dall’Unione Sovietica alla misteriosa Albania), la quotidianità casalinga, le fughe in campagna e le crisi della famiglia Ernaux riflettono le emozioni e le insicurezze di un’intera classe sociale nei decenni successivi al Sessantotto. E offrono una testimonianza e un punto di vista unici e insostituibili su un momento storico in cui il nostro presente affonda saldamente le sue radici.

  Heloisa receives a gift: a collection of super-8 films with images of enormous cataracts that once comprised the Seven Falls (Sete Quedas), a natural paradise destroyed by the construction of the world's largest hydroelectric plant, in the early 1980s. The construction of the plant, at the height of the Brazilian military regime, awakens memories of a past immersed in a political authoritarianism. The film starts from the relationship between Heloisa, the filmmaker, and her father, Alvaro, an engineer who had his moment of glory during the Brazilian military dictatorship. They question the political trajectory of Brazil.Projections and maps become the first bridges to connect with the past. However, it is the inescapable present that really strikes Alvaro and Heloisa as they position themselves on opposite sides.

  Trying to freeze time is an illusion. Whatever we do, life unfolds in one direction. Memory is a Dying Horse is yet another desperate attempt to challenge the irreversibility of time. A sparse, raw, somehow childish collage of reminiscences filmed on Super 8 between Syria, France and Canada. The film is accompanied with musical experimentation by Stefan Christoff.
