La pel·lícula està inspirada en la increïble història d'un gos pastor anomenat Palma que va ser deixat inadvertidament a l'aeroport pel seu amo. Es fa amiga de Nicholas, un noi de nou anys, la mare de la qual mor, deixant-ho amb un pare que amb prou feines coneix, un pilot que troba el gos a l'aeroport. És una història d'aventures sorprenents, veritable amistat i amor incondicional.

No mucha gente sabe que todas las casas están habitadas por finlandeses. Son criaturas peludas que aparecen en el mundo humano para cuidar una casa y mantener el hogar. Finnick es un joven finlandés, a quien no parece importarle su responsabilidad de hacer de la casa un hogar. Solo le está haciendo bromas a su gente y esa es la razón por la cual ninguna de las familias quería quedarse mucho tiempo en su casa. Todo cambia cuando una nueva familia llega a su casa, donde los trucos de Finnick no funcionan en absoluto, y conoce a Christine de 13 años y comienzan a suceder sucesos inexplicables en la ciudad. Quizá podríamos decir que se trata de una especie de ‘duende doméstico’, que se encarga de cuidar la casa. Así pues, cada casa tiene un ‘Domovoy’, un pequeño Dios del hogar que puede establecer tanto buenas como malas relaciones con los habitantes del hogar.
