Terje Lyngmo is bijna vijftig, voortdurend blut en een mislukte muzikant die de kost verdient met het stemmen van andermans piano's. Uit impuls jat hij op een dag een dure videorecorder. Dit zal grote gevolgen hebben voor hem. Want terwijl hij de camera test, filmt hij per ongeluk een moord. In plaats van aangifte te doen bij de politie, verkiest hij de moordenaar af te persen. Lyngmo heeft echter meer ervaring met piano's dan met moordenaars. Zo heeft hij niet nagedacht over hoe het geld moet worden afgeleverd, of nog dat telefooncellen kunnen getraceerd worden. Gelukkig blijkt de moordenaar, vastgoedmakelaar Per Raglo, geen ervaren crimineel.
