The victim of an administrative internment aimed at re-educating her after her so-called "depraved behaviour", Lina finds herself completely abandoned, confused and humiliated. In present day, when she is 60 years old, for the first time in her life, our brave protagonist can finally "spill the beans", thus freeing herself of a burden that has threatened to destroy her all these years.

Ook de knecht Alfred en de hulp Lina wonen op de boerderij. Op het erf scharrelen kippen en er zijn schapen, varkens, koeien en paarden. En 's zomers wemelt het er van de vliegen. Emil is een pienter jongetje en een onverbeterlijke deugniet. Hoewel... eigenlijk probeert Emil behulpzaam te zijn, maar dat loopt bijna altijd fout. Papa wordt dan erg boos en stuurt Emil voor straf naar het houtschuurtje. Dat vindt Emil niks erg. Hij vermaakt zich altijd erg goed in het schuurtje, waar hij uit hout poppetjes snijdt; een kunst die hij van Alfred heeft afgekeken. Er staan al meer dan 300 houten poppetjes in de schuur, zo vaak heeft Emil voor straf in de schuur moeten zitten... Ida zou graag eens voor straf in de schuur willen zitten en houten poppetjes maken, maar hoe zij ook haar best doet, het lukt maar niet om ondeugend te zijn.
