  Max (Theo Maassen) oefent al twintig jaar het vak van ambulancebroeder uit. Hij heeft geen vrouw, geen kinderen maar wel een buurvrouw als vriendin waar hij regelmatig mee scharrelt. Hij krijgt op een bepaald moment een nieuwe collega, een Marokkaans meisje waar hij goed mee overweg kan. Op een dag moeten ze met de ambulance naar een spoedbevalling maar een groep jongeren blokkeert de weg. Max slaat, daartoe mede aangezet door een tv-optreden van een beroemde cabaretier (Gijs Scholten van Aschat), op dat moment van zich af, waardoor juist de ellende begint.

  Occupied France, 1942. Gilles is arrested by SS soldiers alongside other Jews and sent to a camp in Germany. He narrowly avoids sudden execution by swearing to the guards that he is not Jewish, but Persian. This lie temporarily saves him, but Gilles gets assigned a life-or-death mission: to teach Farsi to Head of Camp Koch, who dreams of opening a restaurant in Iran once the war is over. Through an ingenious trick, Gilles manages to survive by inventing words of "Farsi" every day and teaching them to Koch.

  Elk jaar is er aan de universiteit van Saint-Denis de wedstrijd "Eloquentia", die gericht is op de keuze van "de beste spreker van 93". Talrijke studenten aan die universiteit besluiten deel te nemen en bereiden zich voor met de hulp van professionals (advocaten, dichters, regisseurs, ...) die hen bijstaan bij de moeilijke praktijk van het spreken in het openbaar. In de loop van de weken zullen ze de subtiele bronnen van retoriek aanleren, zullen ze zich bewijzen ten opzichte van anderen, en vooral ook ten opzichte van zichzelf.
