Jesień w Abchazji jest piękna - zalesione wzgórza, morze, w sadach dojrzewają mandarynki. Ale jesień w 1992 roku jest inna. Abchazja walczy o odłączenie się od Gruzji. Trwa wojna. Ludzie uciekają. W jednej z wiosek zostają tylko dwaj mieszkańcy, bezstronni Estończycy. Markus nie uciekł, bo chce zebrać mandarynki z sadu, chociaż Ivo, jego sąsiad, jest przeciwny zbiorom w czasie wojny. Tymczasem działania wojenne są coraz bliżej, aż trafiają pod ich drzwi. Kiedy cichną strzały Ivo znajduje ocalałego z potyczki, rannego Ahmeda.
