Chłopcy wraz z trenerem zostają odcięci od świata i uwięzieni 4 kilometry pod powierzchnią. Kiedy rodziny orientują się, że nastolatkowie nie wrócili do domu, zawiadamiają odpowiednie służby. Rozpoczyna się zakrojona na szeroką skalę międzynarodowa akcja ratunkowa, w której biorą udział tysiące ludzi. Do Tham Luang zjeżdżają m.in. amerykańscy komandosi i doświadczeni nurkowie jaskiniowi. Wieść o prowadzonej akcji rozchodzi się w oka mgnieniu i jej postępy obserwuje cały świat. Dopiero po 9 dniach ekipie udaje się zlokalizować zaginionych, którzy z braku jedzenia pozostają na skraju całkowitego wyczerpania.
