Yıl 1959. Hiroşima’ya atılan bombanın ardından barışla ilgili çekilen bir filmde oynayan Emmanuelle Riva , Hiroşima’da kalan son iki gecesini Eiji Okada ile geçirir. İkisinin mutlu birer evlilikleri olmasına rağmen birbirlerine aşık olurlar. Eiji, Emmanuelle’nin kısa zaman içinde ülkesi olan Fransa'ya döneceğini öğrenince, Hiroşima’da onunla kalması için uğraşır. Bu esnada Emanuelle, İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nda Alman bir asker olan ilk aşkını hatırlar.
