A transformative experience, this emotional documentary addresses some of the most pressing issues of the 21st century, reflecting on happiness, social connection, daily life, death, and aging, while exploring doubts about the "word of a thousand shades and somewhat perverse" concept of success. This film has the potential to change your life and your perspective on the true meaning of success. An intimate reflection on success, it features María Teresa Paniagua, a joyful and unique octogenarian Zarzuela singer. The documentary offers surprising insights from interviews with notable figures from the worlds of art, science, and intellectual thought, including actress Rossy de Palma, philosophers Fernando Savater and Javier Sádaba, tenor Plácido Domingo, monk Matthieu Ricard, psychiatrist Martin Seligman, Harvard professor Nancy Etcoff, and TED Talk speaker and writer Victor Küppers, among others. This documentary is a balm for the soul.

Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi would have been 100 years in October 2019. The Shah's story begins with good ideas and ideals and ends in bloody chaos. However, his name also stands for a time of human rights violations, vicious oppression and intolerance.

In 1989, I met Anton LaVey for the first time. At this time in his life, LaVey was seeing only a select few people. For this film, I've met and interviewed some of them, to try and create a composite image of what he was really like, and what he meant to these people. It's a memory lane trip, filled with personal stories, dark humor, great music and never before seen material with the Black Pope himself.

In Homework (1989), Abbas Kiarostami put questions to students at a public school: questions about homework, punishments, and dreams of the future. The result was a portrait of the generation that grew up during the Iran-Iraq war, trapped by uncertainty and a rigid upbringing. Now, some 30 years later, directors Ashkan Nejati and Mehran Nematollahi repeat Kiarostami’s questions and come to the conclusion that the school system and society itself have changed dramatically. The gulf between rich and poor has grown far wider, and that has become evident in the schools. Parents, many of whom are illiterate, are unable to help their young ones, or otherwise too busy with their careers to supervise homework. Any sense of interest or guidance is absent.

Through interviews and reenactments, The Natural History of the Chicken investigates the role of the chicken in American life and tells several remarkable stories. A Maine farmer says she found a chicken frozen stiff, but was able to resuscitate it. Colorado natives tell a story of the chicken who lost its head-- and went on living. A Virginia farmer tells about (and demonstrates) the benefits of raising chickens for his own consumption. Perhaps most surprising is the case of the Florida woman: she bathes her pet bird, and takes it both swimming and shopping. Through these and other stories, this documentary illuminates the role that chickens play in (some of) our lives.
