Es ist ein Ritterschlag für sie: Revolverheld ziehen den Stecker und gesellen sich in die Runde der Musiker, die ein „MTV Unplugged“-Konzert spielen dürfen. Herausgekommen sind zwei Stunden wundervoll handgemachte Musik - ein Rückblick auf über zehn Jahre Bandgeschichte. Aufgeteilt ist das Konzert in drei Akte. Für den ersten wurde auf der Bühne eine ehemalige Hamburger Kneipe nachgebaut. „Ein kleiner, intimer Anfang des Konzerts“, sagt Schlagzeuger Jakob Sinn dazu. Der zweite Akt spielt auf dem Dach eines Hochhauses, der dritte am Strand zwischen Sand, Möwen, Anker und Dünengras. In jedem Akt stoßen weitere Musiker (u.a. Mark Foster, Johannes Oerding, Rea Garvey) hinzu - in der Kneipe ist die Band noch zu sechst, zwischendurch unterstützt von einem biertrinkenden Männerchor. Am Strand sind ein Streichorchester und Background-Sängerinnen dabei.

The 2015 edition of the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert saw Zubin Mehta back on the podium after an eight year absence. Mehta has mellowed a bit in that time, and the program seems to reflect that. The orchestra plays with its usual style and finesse, though the fireworks are kept to a minimum. There's a lot of beautiful legato playing to be had here, which is enjoyable to hear when so many ensembles feel the need to punch and pull at music these days. In a word, "tradition" is on display, and that's a good thing.
