Danusia and her daughter Basia live far away from the modern world, in tune with the rhythm and laws of nature, among animals and the spirits of the dead. The peace and sense of security offered by their enclave come at a price - the women increasingly long for contact with other people. Bucolic is an affectionate observation of people who live in a different way. It evokes a curiosity about their world and a desire to take a closer look.

Between the first and second waves of COVID-19, Nikolas Candido "wrote" an audiovisual letter to his friend. In a series of obscured fragments, he captures the changing mood of Rio de Janeiro with a digital 8mm camera. Although on the surface, life goes on as normal, the city is slowly sinking into darkness. Just like the whole country, where up to 4,000 people died every day during the most critical stage of the fight against the virus.
Fragments to Céline (2021 )

A film crew crisscrosses England trying to unravel the mystery surrounding a record released 30 years earlier, 'Spirit of Eden', that defined the passage from light to shadow of its makers, the band Talk Talk and its lead singer Mark Hollis. From overwhelming obstacles to unpredictable encounters, their journey soon turns into an organic quest. With silence as a horizon line. And punk as a philosophy, thinking that music is accessible to all and that the human spirit is above the technique.
In a Silent Way (2020 )

Ukrainian journalist Katya Soldak, currently living in New York City and working for Forbes magazine, chronicles Ukraine's history: its strong ties to Russia for centuries; how it broke away from the USSR and began to walk alone; the Orange Revolution, the Maidan Revolution, the Crimea annexation, the Donbass War; all through the eyes of her family and friends settled in Kharkiv, a large Ukrainian city located just eighteen miles from the Russian border.

This detailed and sober look at the issue of nuclear power begins where Germany is currently standing: with shutting it off. It’s precisely because the film is anything but alarmist that the alarming aspect of the situation becomes clear. The nuclear nightmare is not over; a safe final nuclear waste repository is not in sight. And yet, boosted by the coal phase-out, many people seem to see “clean” nuclear energy as an option again. The terror of climate change trumps the terror of the nuclear worst case scenario. A zero sum game.
Nuclear Forever (2020 )
Film
“What the hell happened to my country?” After Donald Trump’s election, this is a burning question for Susanne Brandstätter, an American filmmaker who’s lived most her life in Austria. With the critical distance of a European and an insider’s eye, she gets close to Trump voters in Ohio: a microcosm of a deeply divided USA. Showing striking parallels to Europe, the documentary explores polarization and why people stick to their political opinions – no matter what. Is there no way out?
This Land Is My Land (2020 )
Film
In Siculiana, a small Sicilian town full of flaking facades, religiosity is lived out as a matter of course. And of course the figure of Jesus Christ worshipped here is black, and always has been. However, some people cannot get used to their dark-skinned neighbours in the refugee camp. The camera accompanies locals and stranded people along their paths, which often lead to the church, but not necessarily together, and draws a kind of map of the city in black-on-black contrasts.
A Black Jesus (2020 )

The film explores the destruction of a unique train station in Zurich and the construction of the new prison and police centre in its place. Nemesis (2020 )
Film
The communal memory of killings which took place following World War II in the Dębrzyna forest in south-east Poland, featuring accounts from those who witnessed the atrocities as children. It was a time when many people were returning from forced labour in Germany, with no idea that they might become victims of the attacks being perpetrated by the marauding bandits who had overrun the area. The residents of the nearby villages knew what was going on in the forest, yet never intervened because they were “living in fear” themselves.
The Fear (2020 )
Film
Not too far from Rio de Janeiro's rumbling motorways and electric lights there is a place, where carving canoes and building houses with clay are still an essential part of life. 'No Kings' has been made in the same free spirit that defines the lives of the inhabitants of the small community between the sea and the rain forest. Out here, nature itself is the supreme authority. The rest of society with its gods and kings is a distant echo. The vital, saturated universe enshrouds us as we are out catching crabs with the children or hear the rain patter on the roof in the middle of the night. The Caiçara people maintain and cultivate the last remnants of the Atlantic rain forest, and their traditions are based on sustainable values from Brazil, Japan, Africa and Europe. But Brazil's new government has other plans for the rain forest and for the country's many minorities.

With provocative and performative energy, Kurdwin Ayub made herself the protagonist of her own video works during the 2010s' new internet culture of selfies and self-representation. In 'LOLOLOL' she turns the camera - a smartphone - away from herself and towards Anthea, an artist in her early 20s, as she during a long evening and night makes her entrance into Vienna's art world.

A bio-doc about my pal Judy Rebick: iconic second wave Canadian feminist, radical activist, journalist and writer. She is the founding publisher of rabble.ca, Canada’s irreverent progressive online news source, and a former president of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women, Canada’s largest women’s group. Shot in kinetic bursts of super 8, the only voice is Judy’s, impelling a trek through a devastated family, the struggle for women’s right to choose and the challenge of neo-liberalism. A series of six public moments (marked by speeches and TV spots) structure a life collage that arrives in six movements. A fractured movie for fractured times.
