Man On Wire ist ein beeindruckender Dokumentarfilm: Am 7. August 1974 ist es nach langer Vorbereitung soweit. Der junge französische Akrobat Philippe Petit spannt in New York ein 60 Meter langes Drahtseil zwischen den Türmen des World Trade Centers. Ohne Sicherungsgurte, ohne Netz und ohne sonstige Befestigungen balanciert er über eine Stunde auf dem gespannten Seil - in mehr als 400 Metern Höhe. Erst danach kann er von den herbei geleiten Sicherheitsleuten überwältigt werden. Der "Attentäter" wird zuerst einem psychologischen Test unterzogen und schließlich ins Gefängnis gesteckt. Natürlich wird er schnell wieder frei gelassen. Die Aktion war ein voller Erfolg. Der Film beleuchtet die Vorbereitungen des Drahtseilaktes und zieht dafür seltene Archivaufnahmen heran. Außerdem werden mit verschiedenen Interviews die Beweggründe und das Leben von Philippe Petit beleuchtet...
