Dieser Verlust ist zu groß, als dass sich die Erinnerungssplitter nahtlos in die lineare Zeit einfügen ließen. Das Vergehen der Zeit wird spürbar im Heranwachsen der Kinder, in den Spuren, die das Alter in die Gesichter eingräbt, in der äußeren Sichtbarkeit der Umwälzungen, die China während dieser Zeitspanne erlebt.
