Uurastettuaan vuosisatoja ypöyksin siinä tehtävässä, mihin se oli alun perin rakennettu, WALL-E (lyhenne sanoista Wattipää Automaatti Likasyöppö Lastari - Ekokone) löytää elämälleen uuden tarkoituksen (krääsän keräämisen lisäksi), kun se tapaa viehättävän etsintärobotin nimeltä EVA. EVA hoksaa pian, että WALL-E on huomaamattaan keksinyt ratkaisun, jolla voidaan pelastaa planeetan tulevaisuus, ja kiiruhtaa kertomaan uutisen ihmisille (jotka ovat kärsimättömästi odottaneet sanaa siitä, olisiko kotiin jo turvallista palata). Samaan aikaan WALL-E etsii EVA:a ympäri galaksia ja tulee käynnistäneeksi yhden elokuvahistorian jännittävimmistä ja mielikuvituksellisimmista seikkailukomedioista.

Edellisen osan tapahtumat liittyvätkin olennaisesti uuden sarjakuvasaippuaoopperan juoneen.Viime jaksossahan sekä sankarin tyttöystävä Mary Jane että paras kaveri Harry Osborn saivat tietää, että Peter Parker on Hämähäkkimies. Tämä tuo vähän lisämielenkiintoa kolmososan juoneen, joka keskittyy ennen kaikkea Hämiksen ja hänen naisensa rakoilevaan suhteeseen. Hyvin ei mene kaveririntamallakaan: Harry kantaa kaunaa Peterille isänsä, Vihreän menninkäisen, kuoleman takia ja muuttuu itsekin superkonnaksi.Avaruudesta pudonnut organismi muotoutuu suhdesopan keskellä Hämähäkkimiehen uudeksi mustaksi puvuksi. Sen myötä nössö-Peter muuttuu kovikseksi, joka keimailee kadulla jokaiselle vastaantulevalle naiselle ja kukkoilee jazz-klubilla elokuvan toisessa (!) musikaalikohtauksessa. Tässä vaiheessa avaruusmönjä on ottanut valtaansa myös elokuvan tekijät tai sitten näiltä on muuten vaan karannut mopo käsistä. Muilta osin filmin huumori onneksi toimii.
