Skynet lähettää nestemäisestä metallista rakennetun T-1000 -tuhoajan ajassa taaksepäin vuoteen 1995, jolloin John Connor on vielä lapsi. Tehtävänään T-1000:lla on tappaa John Connor. Vastarintaliike lähettää Johnin suojaksi oman taistelijansa, Terminatorin, jonka ainoana tehtävänään on suojella Johnia viimeiseen saakka. Kyse on vain siitä, kumpi löytää Johnin ensimmäisenä.
