Skånelainen tuhopolttaja on kärsinyt vankeusrangaistuksensa ja hänet päästetään vapaaksi. Mutta hän ei ole tervetullut pieneen skånelaiseen yhteisöön, ja edes kioskinpitäjä ei suostu myymään hänelle savukkeita. Samana yönä kioski sytytetään tuleen ja omistaja palaa hengiltä. Tuhopolttajaa etsitään jälleen uudesta polttomurhasta. Hämmentynyt Kurt ei kykene erittelemään asioita, joten totuuden sijaan hän keksii selityksiä. Martinsson syyttää häntä valehtelusta eikä kykene luottamaan Kurtiin. Myöhemmin tuhopolttaja löydetään vakavasti pahoinpideltynä ja tajuttomana. Kurt päättää uskoutua Lindalle kertoen olevansa vakavasti sairas ja avun tarpeessa. Kysymys on tukeeko Linda häntä? Hänhän ei ole aina tukenut Lindaa.

Tytön vanhemmat asuvat likaisessa hoitokodissa ja isä oli suunnitellut vievänsä hänet kotimaahansa Chileen. Kun äiti löydetään murhattuna tytön huoneesta, Kurt tajuaa että he jahtaavat erittäin epätoivoista ja vaarallista henkilöä. Jahti vie Kurtin takaisin, häntä pitkään vaivanneeseen, 10 vuotta sitten selvittämättä jääneeseen tapaukseen, jossa tyttöä ei koskaan löydetty. Kurt syytti tapauksessa äitiä, jonka apua hän nyt tarvitsee päästäkseen eteenpäin etsinnöissä.
