Haapsalussa hän saa viran opettajana ja alkaa vetää lapsille urheilukerhoa. Endel alkaa vihkiä lapsia suureen intohimoonsa – miekkailuun. Tämä ajaa hänet törmäyskurssille koulun rehtorin, kommunistisen byrokraatin kanssa. Endel oppii rakastamaan ja pitämään huolta lapsista, joista suuri osa on neuvostomiehityksen jäljiltä orpoja.
